The introduction of multi-factor authentication (MFA) has proven to be a great success, reducing the number of hacked Microsoft accounts by over 80%. Thanks to MFA, Microsoft was able to securely filter out suspicious logins and increase the user recovery rate for hacked accounts from 57% to 81%. This measure not only increased security, but also improved customer loyalty.

Timetable and important dates

The automatic creation of conditional access policies took place between 9 November 2023 and 31 December 2023 for eligible customers. A 90-day period was granted to review and adjust the policies. This period will end soon and enforcement of the policies will begin in February and March 2024.

• Customise the policies to your specific needs, for example by excluding emergency accounts.
• Ensure that all affected users have activated and registered at least one MFA method.
